The Nintendo Switch is finally set to receive virtual reality powers, with the Japanese gaming giant announcing a Labo kit designed for the console. Six kits will be available: VR Goggles, Blaster, Camera, Bird, Elephant, and Wind Pedal.

Nintendo Labo: VR Kit - Expansion Set 1**: Available at a suggested retail price of $19.99, Expansion Set 1 includes the Toy-Con Elephant and Toy-Con Camera.

The main Labo VR Kit includes six different VR Toy-Con projects to build, including the Toy-Con VR Goggles, which are required to use all the other creations.

Let me pre-burst any bubbles and clarify that these kits are not meant to convert Switch into a fully featured VR system.

Nintendo is joining Google Cardboard in offering an entry-level, self-assembly VR device. "We wanted to design an experience that encourages both virtual and real-world interactions among players through passing around Toy-Con creations". That kit goes on sale 12 April and will cost $40; no word on United Kingdom availability and yet. You don't have to use the Switch in VR mode to play with the Labo VR projects though, Nintendo says you can also play without mounting your Switch to your face.

Strictly speaking there is just one dedicated VR kit, the Toy-Con 04 VR Kit, but it will be available in two configurations. Third-party Labo Kits will never have the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con Garage software you need to enjoy Nintendo Labo in the first place, and thus you'll have paid money effectively for a box of cardboard and nothing else. "These 'Toy-Con" kits join the three previous releases; the Variety kit, Robot kit, and Vehicle kit.

In an update post launch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe became compatible with the Vehicle Kit allowing for a new way to race.

Prepare to make, play and discover in a whole new way when Nintendo Labo: VR Kit for Nintendo Switch launches on 12 April. You can also buy a $39.99 starter kit and purchase additional kits online after. Let us know in the comments section below.
