The man suspected of murdering Sydney dentist Preethi Reddy, whose body was found in a suitcase in Sydney's east last night, is another dentist and her ex-boyfriend, Harsh Narde.
She was reported missing to Nepean Police Area Command later that night after she failed to arrive home the police added.
Preethi Reddy, 32, was reported missing by her family on Sunday after she did not come home from a dental convention in St. Leonards, a suburb of Sydney, CNN affiliate 7 News Australia reported.
The last images police have of Dr Reddy show her at McDonald's on George Street in Sydney's CBD at around 2:15am on Sunday.
After her family filed a missing person case at the police station, investigators launched a search for her vehicle which they found parked near Strachan Street, Kingsford, about 9.30 pm on Tuesday. During a search of the vehicle, the police located Preethi's body in a suitcase.
Her body had been stabbed numerous times.
Meanwhile, Narde was killed in a auto crash Monday near Tamworth after he drove his BMW head-on into the path of a tractor-trailer whose driver escaped seconds before it burst into flames.
Police spoke with Dr Narde about Dr Reddy's disappearance before he died on the New England Highway at Willow Tree on Monday night.

Police will say Reddy and her former boyfriend "met up in Sydney but we are now looking at all movements between those two to establish what happened", Detective Superintendent Gavin Dengate told reporters on Wednesday.
"I can not qualify exactly what has happened and I won't put it out there because if we're wrong and it's not substantiated then we're doing a disservice to Preethi and her family", Detective Superintendent Gavin Dengate told the ABC News.
Preethi, according to reports, went to a hotel where her ex-boyfriend Harshwardhan Narde was staying.
It was believed the man also attended the dental conference, a police source told AAP.
"He did speak with detectives a few hours after the dentist went missing on Sunday morning, but we do understand that he was involved in a collision with a semi-trailer not long after that interview, somewhere near Tamworth".
"It's devastating, and this is completely out of character", dental assistant Chelsea Holmes of Glenbrook Dental Surgery was quoted as saying by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
A Facebook page set up to help find Dr Preethi Reddy said it was "highly out of character for Preethi to not contact family and loved ones".
