On Thursday night, the nation came a step closer to that goal with the launch of the Beresheet spacecraft - meaning "Genesis" in Hebrew - which blasted into space on a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida.
By reaching the moon, Beresheet will make Israel the fourth country to reach the moon, following the United States, Russia and China.
"Beresheet" will circumnavigate the earth repeatedly in order to pick up speed before it zooms toward the moon, where it is expected to land on April 11.
"Following stage separation, SpaceX will attempt to land Falcon 9's first stage on the "Of Course I Still Love You" droneship, which will be stationed in the Atlantic Ocean".

Israel is on its way to the moon, following a dramatic nighttime launch by SpaceX. Under this, SpaceIL will send NASA scientific data from the spacecraft magnetometer to study that the first magnetic field in the Moon's rocks was there.
