The leaders are to discuss preparations for a no-deal Brexit in the event that the withdrawal agreement is not ratified.

MPs have voted to seek an "alternative arrangement" to guarantee the Northern Ireland border stays open after Brexit.

"I'm determined to deliver Brexit, and determined to deliver on time - on March 29, 2019", she wrote.

"I will be armed with a fresh mandate, new ideas and a renewed determination to agree a pragmatic solution that delivers the Brexit the British people voted for, while ensuring there is no hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland", she stressed.

In an article for the Sunday Times, Simon Coveney, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, wrote: "The EU will not renegotiate the withdrawal agreement and there will be no withdrawal agreement without the backstop".

She also denied that "seeking alternative arrangements for the backstop constituted "ripping up the Good Friday Agreement".

The EU insists that the deal "remains the best and only way to ensure an orderly withdrawal", but with the clock running down until the March 29 exit date the risks of a no-deal Brexit for both Britain and the bloc are coming into sharp focus.

The move, first reported on Saturday by Sky News, was confirmed by the company in a letter to workers Sunday.

He is the second senior minister to suggest such a delay may be needed, after Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said on Thursday Britain may need time to get legislation through.

The prime minister is due to report back to Parliament on her negotiations with the European Union on February 13.

"That is what Parliament instructed me to do on Tuesday night", May said asserted.

Several rebellious centrist Labour MPs, who want a soft Brexit or to stay in the European Union, are mulling forming a new party, according to Sunday's Observer.

But Maas rejected British calls for further concessions to be offered to make the deal, negotiated over two years, more palatable to its critics in London.

A number of MPs fear the United Kingdom could be "trapped" in this arrangement for years, leaving it unable to strike its own trade deals on goods with the rest of the world.

Mrs May argued that under the current Withdrawal Agreement the European Union has already accepted the principle of alternative arrangements to supercede the backstop should it ever be required.

The Mail said the plan would be to delay Brexit but win parliament's backing for a deal in April and then renew May's mandate ahead of negotiations on Britain's future relationship with the EU.
