The Cavs recently signed McCaw to a two-year, $6 million offer sheet.

National Basketball Association officials are visiting with Patrick McCaw's representatives Thursday, as the league begins an investigation centered on a contract between McCaw and the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to reports. Golden State could've matched.

The Warrior filed a request with the National Basketball Association to investigate whether the transactions qualified as salary-cap circumvention. In essence, the Cavs would be helping McCaw escape restricted free agency. Imagine this story: the NBA's worst team losing their top draft pick all because they chose to help out a third-string guard. The pick would, per the CBA, be lost.

McCaw cleared waivers on Wednesday after being released by the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this week. Namely, the Cavs could be fined and be lose their first-round pick. The Cavs can simply claim that they did not feel McCaw was worth rostering anymore, and because of his poor play, they did not want to pay his guaranteed salary. Matthew Dellavedova got hurt in McCaw's first game.
