Would-be 2019 Academy Awards host Kevin Hart has opened up about the controversy that erupted in December over homophobic and transphobic comments he made in old tweets.

Kevin Hart's appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show on Friday drew a terse response from GLAAD, one of the country's leading LGBTQ advocacy groups. "Somehow I'll get to the stage but it's not going to be in this way because it just comes with such a weird cloud at this point". This is stuff I've addressed, I've talked about this. I've apologized for it; I'm not gonna pay it any mind.

"I've taken ten years to put my apology to work. I'm in a completely different space in my life".

Hart had apologized for the jokes in the past but refused to do so again when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gave him an ultimatum to apologize once more or drop his hosting duties. "Because that was wrong". Hart says he is "evaluating" taking on the role again after DeGeneres called the Academy and vouched for him. "We want him to host.whatever we can do, we would be thrilled, and he should host the Oscars", she said, the Washington Examiner reported.

Later, she tweeted, "I believe in forgiveness". I believe in second chances.

During a special hour-long interview on her show, DeGeneres, 60, asked Hart, 39, to explain the drama.

DeGeneres, who is openly gay, tweeted a clip from the interview in which Hart again apologised for the tweets, but said he did not want the Academy Awards to be about him.

Kevin Hart seemed like a sure thing - until he wasn't, after past homophobic tweets resurfaced and he didn't apologize.

The host told Hart not to listen to the "haters out there". "Please accept my apology'".

The comedian was initially dismissive of the controversy, saying he had preciously addressed the remarks and refusing to apologize again. he then offered a written apology after announcing he had chose to step down from the gig. So I was going to leave it alone. "Either I can move forward, or I can't". The Oscars still don't have a host, but Ellen DeGeneres, one of the most prominent gay celebrities out there today, hopes that Hart will re-consider. Because I wanna be done with the conversation. I was called fag by people I loved before I even understood what being gay meant.

After defending fellow comedian Kevin Hart, comedian and host Ellen DeGeneres faces intense backlash.

The former Saturday Night Live star added "FREE LOUIE [sic] CK!" and declared that if Hart doesn't host the Oscars he will boycott.

The Academy has since been scrambling to find a solution following the Hart fiasco.
