Driver who crashed auto while blindfolded was doing the "Bird Box challenge"

According to the Layton City Police Department, the unnamed 17-year-old and her 16-year-old passenger were driving down a major thoroughfare in town when the older teen decided it was the flawless time to play-act Bird Box.

"Can't believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE", the company tweeted on January 2.

In addition to hitting another vehicle whose driver had not voluntarily entered into the challenge, the teenager's truck also spun into a sound wall and a light post.

Based on the hit Netflix horror starring Sandra Bullock, the social media challenge involves participants taking part in tasks while wearing a blindfold, emulating characters in the film who must evade sight-targeting monsters.

'Bird Box Challenge while driving.predictable result, ' Layton Police wrote in a tweet that included pictures of the two cars involved in the crash.

"Honestly, I'm nearly embarrassed to have to say 'Don't drive with your eyes covered, ' but you know apparently we do have to say that", said Travis Lyman of the Layton Police. Police say they are screening a reckless driving charge with the city attorney's office.

It's also - and I can't believe we're at the point where this actually has to be said - an incredibly risky stunt to pull off the in real world.

No one was injured in Monday's crash but authorities didn't discover the reason of the accident until Friday. But others might not be so lucky with such a risky stunt.
