The Denver Broncos have narrowed their coaching search to Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak, sources told ESPN. The fans calling for Joseph's firing began voicing their complaints early on this season and continued speaking up until general manager John Elway gave Joseph the boot following the team's final game of the season. But Donatell is coming out of contract with the Bears and has a history with Fangio going back through a successful four-year run in San Francisco. Fangio represents the first defensive-minded coach to get a head-coaching job during this hiring cycle after one-fourth of the league canned their coaches and mostly started looking for 'The Next Sean McVay'. Most recently, Fangio transformed the Bears defense from the No. 24-ranked unit in 2016 into the No. 1 overall defense in the National Football League in 2018.

Vance Joseph was sacked on December 31 after he produced an unimpressive 11-21 record during his tenure as head coach of the Broncos. The players played hard for Joseph through the struggles of the past two seasons, and many in the Broncos' complex have repeatedly said they respected how Joseph conducted himself.

Last month, Miller suggested that a defense can still lead a team to a title like Denver's did three years ago even in this age of potent offenses incorporating college concepts and running up scores. This season, he orchestrated the top defense in the NFL. He's expected to be introduced as the club's 17th head coach on Thursday.
