In his message for Christmas, Scicluna said he wished that people use the occasion of Christmas to "cherish the gift of life" both at birth but also later on in life.

Christians came with offerings and sung Christmas carols as clerics preached about God's kindness, mercy and forgiveness urging Christians to emulate Jesus Christ, whose birth is celebrated on the day.

The governor added that: "Jesus Christ has been described as the prince of peace".

President Arif Alvi in his message has extended warmest greetings to Christian brethren in Pakistan on the joyous occasion of Christmas and has commended honest efforts of the Christian community for the socio-economic development of the country.

"We indeed faced severe challenges in 2018, but as we celebrate Christmas and our hope for tomorrow, I am convinced that God will bless our collective efforts and we will usher in better days of prosperity ahead as a nation", the statement read.
