Republicans tend to think Hyde-Smith didn't mean what she said and reject the idea that the comment had racial overtones. "I always considered that a great compliment".

Republican Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, who has an office in the Capitol, called the nooses and signs 'reprehensible'.
