Mary Kom clinches record sixth World title, Sonia wins silver

Congratulations to Mary Kom for winning a Gold in the Women's World Boxing Championships. The Manipur boxer defeated Ukraine's x 22-year-old Hanna Okhota today in New Delhi.

The 22-year-old Ukrainian showed great confidence against the six-time world medallist, including some provoking in the final few seconds, but none had any affect on Mary.

With this gold, "Magnificent Mary" also matched Cuban men's legend Felix Savon as the joint most successful pugilist (men and women) in the World Championships history. Winning her first Worlds medal in 2001 - a silver - Mary Kom went on to win five yellow metals in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010 editions and was tied at five golds with Katie Taylor of Ireland. Held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, the world championship saw Mary Kom emerge as the victor by a 5-0 verdict. Mary will be relentless in her pursuit of that one elusive dream: an Olympic gold medal.
