Lowe's Home Improvement stores in San Jose and South San Francisco with under-performing sales are among 51 in the USA and Canada that will close in the coming months, company officials announced Monday.

Ellison told investors in August that the smaller OSH stores were not running well and could never become a big part of Lowe's overall business. The company says eight employees at each Mississauga location will be affected.

The store closures, all in the United States and Canada, are set to be completed by the end of January, Lowe's spokesman Steve Salazar said in an email. It did not identify which stores those are.

No local stores were among those listed to close.

The move Monday came as Mooresville, N.C.,-based Lowe's struggles to compete with rival Home Depot.
