A 10-year-old Wisconsin girl was charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of a six-month-old child, and she told investigators that she panicked after dropping the infant and tried to silence her by stomping on the girl.

Schneider said her daughter's "favorite time with her kids was all in their jammies, curled up to watch a movie".

It's been a long weekend for the community of Chippewa Falls after 3 Girl Scouts and one mother were killed in a hit-and-run Saturday morning.

"She panicked, didn't know what to do and didn't want to get into trouble", Newell said at the girl's bond hearing, KSTP-TV reported.

The local Girl Scout group consisted of 12 persons (5 adults and 7 children) who participating in a highway cleanup project.

Treu turned himself into the Chippewa Falls Police Department at 4:33 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities identified the girls as Jayna Kelley, 9, and Autum Helgeson, 10, both of Lake Hallie, and Haylee Hickle, 10, from the Town of Lafayette.

The girl's biological parents were with her in court.

The other charges Treu faces are for felony bail jumping, intentionally abusing a hazardous substance, and causing "great bodily harm" during a hit-and-run because another Girl Scout in the group was injured.

According to Kowalczyk, the girl said she was holding the baby when she dropped the infant, who hit his head on a footstool.

Treu was arrested on charges including four counts of homicide by negligent use of a motor vehicle, police said.

Schneider's mother, Judy Schneider, said her daughter and granddaughter's deaths are "still not real for any of us", and her 6-year-old grandson, Jasper, can't grasp what happened. Police say he and his passenger, who is also in custody, said they'd been "huffing" or inhaling vapors from an aerosol cleaner before the crash, something prosecutors had argued in court.

The fatal incident was similar to one in September, when Treu crashed his vehicle and police found methamphetamine and THC in it, Newell said in court. They quickly settled on the girl as the prime suspect, said Chippewa County Sheriff James Kowalczyk.
