An NBC News article Friday, citing unnamed sources, explained that Kelly is still in talks with the channel about her future.
The news organization made the official announcement on Friday to cancel Kelly's "Today" segment. Her hour-long section of the Today show started in September 2017 and was met with negative reviews. In an earlier statement, NBC said, "Given the circumstances "Megyn Kelly Today' will be on tape the rest of the week".
Those statements caused her own NBC colleagues to turn on her.
Kelly did not appear on television Thursday or Friday, as the network opted to run reruns in her absence.
This morning, NBC News host Megyn Kelly is in talks with the network about her imminent departure, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Mike Colter Welcomes a Daughter as Netflix Cancels Luke Cage
After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. Coincidentally, the initial " Luke Cage " season two trailer features Rakim's "I Ain't No Joke" classic .
But let's be clear: NBC wanted to rid themselves of Kelly for the longest time and they seized on this gaffe as an opportune moment to do so. She is in the middle of the second year of a three-year contract, which reportedly pays her more than $20 million a year.
Earlier his week Kelly surprised NBC News with her spirited on-air defense of blackface Halloween costumes.
Kelly clashed with NBC's management when she publicly called for Lack to appoint outside investigators to look into why the network didn't air Ronan Farrow's stories about Harvey Weinstein, which he instead took to the New Yorker.
"Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween". In its first year, Kelly's show averaged 2.4 million viewers a day, a drop of 400,000 viewers from the year before.
She continued, "And that conversation turned to whether it is ever OK for a person of one race to dress up as another - a black person making their face lighter or a white person making theirs darker to make a costume complete".
'I hear Megyn misses the news, ' Murdoch said, sources close to Kelly and Murdoch told the Beast.
