Detroit's Greater Grace Temple was packed with her family and friends, who took their spots among star-studded funeral-goers. In London, England, the Welsh Guards played Franklin's signature tune "Respect" outside Buckingham Palace, prior to the routine Changing of the Guard.

The Queen of Soul's funeral is underway.

Outside, more than 100 pink Cadillacs surrounded the Greater Grace Temple, where the funeral was held, setting the tone for the extravagant event that ran more than five hours.

"She ain't work for you", Dyson shouted over applause.

And some discovered they had a newfound respect for the monarchy.

Many in the pews ignored repeated calls of no phones permitted to take selfies with former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton as they filed in.

Aretha Franklin passed away without leaving a will behind. She was reported to be "gravely ill" earlier in the week, and died at her home in Detroit.

Robinson and Faith Hill also performed.

The start of the service - meant to begin at 10 a.m. - was delayed.

Her body arrived in a 1940 Cadillac LaSalle hearse.

Lasting just over eight hours, the service at Greater Grace Temple encompassed numerous same elements and emotions that were hallmarks of Franklin's more than six decades on sacred and secular stages.

Late Friday, Franklin was laid to rest in a mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery, the final resting place of her father. I really didn't. And, you know, people could see it. "Even when we would fuss".

"We know that she would have wanted nothing but the best", said Sabrina Owens, Franklin's niece who was tasked with planning the funeral in just two weeks. The tribute is a nod to the Queen of Soul's hit "Freeway of Love".

Focusing on Franklin's gospel roots, the service featured music from Ariana Grande and Chaka Khan, with Stevie Wonder delivering an emotional finale.

Franklin's gold-plated casket was escorted out of the church at 6:45 pm, a simple posy of roses on top, almost eight hours after the service officially began at 11:00am.

Still, the get-down and uplift can certainly coexist.
