Verizon Launches The World’s First Commercial 5G Service On October 1

Instead of exclusively relying on an underground fiber optic cable, Verizon's technology involves installing a router built with fixed antennas to deliver the broadband wirelessly. The 5G name, performed in Minneapolis, Minnesota - where Verizon has a cosmopolitan mobile network - passe 39GHz millimetre-wave (mmWave) spectrum, an Ericsson mmWave radio and non-standalone Chance 3x core, and a Qualcomm test instrument with a Snapdragon X50 5G modem and RF subsystem.

If you turn out to be eligible for 5G broadband through Verizon, you won't pay anything for the service initially. Current Verizon customers will pay $50 a month for the service, while new customers will pay $70 a month, with no additional hardware costs.

Installation and a free router is also included, along with router upgrades when they become available in 2019.

Sacramento is one of four cities in the receive early access to the at-home internet service, along with Houston, Indianapolis, and Los Angeles, according to a Verizon press release. Depending on location, peak speeds could reach almost 1Gbps.

Verizon is also throwing in three free months of YouTube TV (regularly $40 per month), plus a free Apple TV 4K or Chromecast. Verizon will provide the service free to early adapters for three months.

Verizon 5G is said to be built on Verizon's Ultra Wideband 5G network, and it is also the first commercial 5G broadband Internet service to be offered to consumers.

"To be first, we encouraged others in the ecosystem to move more quickly at every step", Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg said in a press email.
