Knight has reportedly been experiencing health issues in recent years and told the judge he expects to die in prison.

Knight was accused in January 2015 of running over two men, killing one of them, during an argument.

Knight's truck is seen going into reverse, throwing the man to the ground. Knight fled the scene. Jury selection for his trial was scheduled to begin Monday. Attorneys for Knight have said that he was acting in self-defense and that Sloan was armed, which Sloan has denied.

Suge Knight is now 53 years old which means that he will be in his 80s before he is released from prison. As part of the plea agreement the murder charges will be dismissed by prosecutors, along with other charges against Knight of robbery and making criminal threats.

Mr Sloan has denied claims he was carrying a gun during the confrontation.

His record label helped launch the careers of artists including Dr Dre, Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg. Knight lost control of the company after it was forced into bankruptcy. The 28 years sentence is extraordinarily stiff for a guilty plea for manslaughter.
