Awful news came through the National Football League yesterday as the San Francisco 49ers fear that their talented quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo sustained a torn ACL during their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Garoppolo injured his left knee while trying to pick up extra yardage late in San Francisco's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

San Francisco must go through the season with C.J. Beathard at quarterback.

Garoppolo was in his first full season with San Francisco, leading the 49ers to a 1-2 record to start the year. The Niners struggled with Beathard last season before the midseason addition of Garoppolo changed their fortunes. Savage has a 57.5 percent completion rate with 2,000 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions. This season, he's been with the New Orleans Saints, but has not played a game. Among the ideas to salvage the year was to sign Colin Kaepernick, who was on the team from 2011-2016 and led the 49ers to the 2012 Super Bowl. But the point is that Savage has started games in the National Football League so teams value that experience, somehow.
