Sometimes, the Ryder Cup even has players come out of a tunnel onto the tee as if they're wrestling superstars coming out for a big fight.
Tiger Woods managed to take it to another level.
He is still wading through the hundreds of text messages following his stunning Tour Championship victory, but Tiger Woods concedes he has more pressing issues this week as he attempts to reverse USA's poor away record in the Ryder Cup.
The 26 year old is known as one of the most passionate characters in golf but he is certain he can channel that energy to good effect this week. "As much as I enjoy winning individually, there's not a greater feeling than winning as a team".
In 33 matches across seven Ryder Cups since his 1997 debut, he has won 13, halved three and lost 17.
I imagine it would have been between him and Xander Schauffele for that spot and, in Finau, captain Jim Furyk has plumped for another power hitter. Brooks Koepka spent the Saturday night before his first U.S. Open victory on the phone with Dustin Johnson (it wasn't a long conversation).
"It was a bit of a roller-coaster ride", European captain Thomas Bjorn said.
When the gallery at East Lake Golf Club spilled onto the 18th fairway Sunday afternoon, it became hard to find Tiger Woods in its midst.
Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed smile as they walk from the 1st tee during a Ryder Cup practice round at Le Golf National.
Monday was as much a time to reflect on Woods as it was to rest up for a busy week at Le Golf National.

Breaking Views: SC’s Verdict on Adultery Is Worth Saluting
However, India's ruling BJP government had opposed the petition, insisting that adultery should remain a criminal offence. The law on adultery enforces a construct of marriage where one partner is to cede her sexual autonomy to the other.
Pogba Not To Captain Man U Again, Mourinho Confirms
Jose Mourinho might insist that there is "no problem at all" with Paul Pogba but these images would suggest otherwise. The news was delivered to Pogba and the rest of the players at United's Carrington training ground on Tuesday.
"Put our foot down and go out and play some good golf, kind of like we did in 2016, and try to win the cup and take the cup back home". Players alternate hitting tee shots, with one leading off on odd-numbered holes, and the other on even-numbered holes. That was in Dubai in 2001. Ian Poulter says he is tweeting actively, with one exception.
"Look, it's a great week", he said.
That was the highest rating of the year this side of the majors, and the highest for the Tour Championship dating to 2000.
"So a lot of these guys just had not played against me yet", Woods said. "So for everyone in golf, it's brilliant".
"The only way it could have come is, Tiger and Phil's Ryder Cup record didn't help", Miller said in an interview at East Lake.
Amid tensions caused by Britain's looming departure from the European Union, the captain of Europe's Ryder Cup team said Thursday his players were an example of how the continent "stands as one". "You'll see less aggressiveness, more conservative tee-to-green, but once you get on the greens, they are a little bit flatter and you can really make putts here", United States five-time major victor Phil Mickelson said. "But we respect our opponents and know what we are up against". The lowest team score on every hole wins the hole. What can the Americans learn about the course before play tees off on Friday compared to what the European players have absorbed over year after year of tackling it in tournament conditions?
Europe has done it well over the years.
Americans have become better at following Europe's team model in the Ryder Cup after dropping eight of 10 events before Hazeltine. The Americans have confidence from winning big at Hazeltine two years ago - Woods was a vice captain that week - and from a team that boasts nine major champions. And that means little, as recent history would suggest.
The Americans are trying to end 25 years of losing the Ryder Cup in Europe, and for one morning, it looked as though this might be the time. It's not anything I need to mention in the team room.
The quality of the American line-up makes it a huge ask for Europe to win this week.
