One of the most intriguing was that the film will dispense with comic book movie law and not take the form of a conventional origins story. Why no, I will not stop making that joke about the Captain Marvel movie between now and next March, thank you.

With films like Ant-Man and the Wasp and next year's Captain Marvel coming out of Marvel Studios, the studio does appear to be inching its way towards releasing more female-led films. Set in the 1990s, the film is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The focus is understandably on its titular character, with a number of shots of Brie Larson's Carol Danvers in and out of the classic costume, as well as Jude Law's mentor, Ben Mendelsohn's villain, Lashana Lynch's Maria Rambeau, and Nicky Fury sans iconic eyepatch.

Starring Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson, Captain Marvel marks the first time that an MCU film will star a female character in the lead role. With Captain Marvel preceding Avengers 4, Carol will have an entire movie to establish her strength, even if she's not quite "godlike", as well as her flaws.

"She can't help but be herself", Larson told EW.

"Captain Marvel" comes to theaters March 8. He went on to say that her humanity is "also the thing that makes her great". He, of course, is the Stan Lee and Gene Colan creation whom Jim Starlin memorably killed off in 1982's story "The Death of Captain Marvel". She's amusing, but doesn't always tell good jokes.

Captain Marvel has a March 8, 2019 release directed by the writing/directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and stars Academy Award victor Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law. They feature the first look at Brie Larson as the title character and of the shape-shifting aliens called the Skrulls.

Captain Marvel's debut is highly anticipated given the events of "Avengers: Infinity War".
