Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, and ending at midnight Sunday, Oklahomans will be able to shop for many items with a temporary exemption from sales tax.
Senate Bill 226 has established the tax-free weekend as a permanent day.
School supplies priced at $50 or less per item: includes textbooks, notebooks, paper, writing instruments, crayons, art supplies, rulers, book bags, backpacks, handheld calculators, graphing calculators, chalk, maps, and globes.
When they eliminated the holiday, N.C. lawmakers said the state had lost more than $13 million in revenue from the tax-free weekend in 2013, the previous year it was conducted. "We are really excited to kick off back-to-school with a brand new Pickup Tower in our store", said Store Manager Jason Sachs at the Walmart Supercenter on Carlisle Boulevard. Unlike previous year, however, the sales tax doesn't apply to computers. "A lot of these purchases are the ones people make when they are doing their back to school shopping".
