According to reports, Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

However, it won't come as a surprise to anyone if he joins Manchester United as he is looking forward to trying a new challenge and there aren't any names bigger than the Red Devils as of now.

Manchester United failed to muster a shot on target at Allianz Arena as they slumped to a dispiriting 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in their final pre-season fixture.

"If we don't make our team better it will be a hard season for us". Perisic showed his quality at this summer's World Cup, scoring a great goal in the final, and the absence of that sort of ability was notable in how United were not able to maximise Romelu Lukaku.

Ashwin, who also took the wicket of Alastair Cook with the final ball of the second day, had figures of 3-34. India's hopes of victory in the first test against England once again rest with captain Virat Kohli.

Bayern spent nearly the entire first forty-five minutes camped inside the United half, but the score remained goalless until Martinez's strike.

"The other clubs that compete with us are really strong or they have already fantastic squads like Chelsea, Spurs, City, or they are investing massively like for example Liverpool buying everything and everybody", Mourinho told MUTV.

Mourinho warned on Sunday he faces a "difficult" season if executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward can not add to the squad before the first game of the season against Leicester on Friday.

"The players were, once again, brilliant".

Jose Mourinho, successful or otherwise, appears intent on making United the tactical counterpoint to their Premier League rivals.

The debacle has shades of the Ivan Perisic chase of last summer; where Jose Mourinho clearly wanted the Croatian, but Ed Woodward did not wish to bid the extra few million to convince Inter Milan to sell.
