A slew of records tumbled as Australia took on Zimbabwe in the Twenty20 tri-series at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday, with the tourists' captain Aaron Finch setting a record score in Twenty20 Internationals.

1 - Finch might be dismissed in the last over via hit-wicket falling short of the all-time T20 record score but became the first Australian to be dismissed via hit-wicket in the T20I cricket.

Finch, whose surpassed his previous best of 156 against England in 2013, smashed 10 sixes and 16 fours before being hit wicket off the bowling of Blessing Muzarabani.

2 - Finch became the 2nd Australian to record fifty-plus scores in three consecutive innings in T20I cricket.

"I was playing good one-day cricket for Australia and I couldn't put the runs on the board in four-day cricket".

Finch powered his way to 172 in 223 run partnership with fellow opener D'Arcy Shor, another world record as Australia reached 229 for two - the highest total ever scored against Zimbabwe in a T20I. The right hander scored 50 runs from 22 balls before bringing up his second T20I hundred in 50 balls.

"I've got myself to blame for that", Finch said.

Finch's 172 left him three short of Chris Gayle's highest-ever T20 innings which he made for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League five years ago, against a Pune Warriors side captained by Finch. It's coming on quite nicely. The highest individual score against Zimbabwe was Mohammad Shahzad's 118 not out.

"When I was a bit younger I had a chance to be really pushing my case for a few years and I probably had 18 to 24 months of really lean red-ball cricket", Finch said after his record-breaking innings.

Short soon began to find the middle of his own bat, though, and took a brace of sixes off Ryan Burl's legspin to take his strike rate over a run a ball.
