The highly-anticipated Porsche Mission E electric sports sedan is getting near, with the company today confirming the production name will be Porsche Taycan, loosely translating to "lively young horse".
At the special exhibition being held at the Porsche Museum, the Mission E concept vehicle is a significant part of the show. And now it has a production name - Porsche Taycan (which we think is pronounced "Tie-Can"). So now you know. Porsche will begin production of the Taycan later this year. This will enable the vehicle to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.5 seconds and 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph) in less than 12 seconds.
Porsche promises a "level of continuous power that is unmatched by any other electric vehicle". With this system, the car's battery pack will take only 4 minutes to get charged up to the capacity required for a 100 km range. In that regard, the Taycan truly delivers as it will boast a range of 310 miles on a single charge.
Second, driven in all-electric mode, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid shows that Porsche has managed to retain its race-bred chops in an EV, largely down to a compliant but communicative adaptive suspension and an impeccably weighted steering feel. Porsche claims that multiple launches in a row will be possible without a loss in performance, and maximum range will be over 300 miles, per testing under New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) standards that are usually a bit more generous than US ones.
The Taycan has been dubbed the "Tesla-slayer" by some automotive journalists. Porsche Chair Oliver Blume called it "strong and dependable; it's a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom".
