Europe will implement counter-measures against us tariffs on steel and aluminium, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Sunday, voicing regret about President Donald Trump's abrupt decision to withdraw support for a Group of Seven communique.

Based on Justin's false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market! Trump initially refused to sign the statement, but agreed to sign it prior to his departure.

Merkel did not know Trump planned to do this and only found out he pulled out from the "arduously negotiated" declaration while she was returning from the summit.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel called Trump's action and behavior "sobering and a bit depressing".

Nevertheless, she vowed to continue to work on the often-fractious relationship with Trump's White House.

"The issue of tariffs can not be looked at in isolation, we must also think about issues such as subsidies", she said.

"I don't want us to keep inflating our language", she added, saying the word "depressed" was "already a lot, coming from me", in an ironic reference to her usual unflappable appearance.
