Local Restaurant Serves Up Traditional Mexican Dishes for Cinco de Mayo

It's the celebration of the Battle of Pueblo against the french during the Spanish Civil War.

It's not "Mexican Independence Day" like many think.

Chef Sammy Muscovic from Selena Rosa Mexicana Restaurant on the Upper East Side stopped by to show us how to make some dishes you'll be proud to have at your Cinco de Mayo party.

Other states including Missouri, South Dakota, and MS searched for "Taco Bell" as a way to celebrate the holiday.

The analyst team at Cable TV.com did some research to see what each state was Googling the most on the holiday.

In the U.S., Cinco de Mayo celebrations were first held in California in the 1860s, marked among the hundreds of Mexican miners who had crossed the border to work in the west. In Mexico, the commemoration of the battle continues to be mostly ceremonial, such as through military parades.

"I hope everybody has big plans for the weekend because tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo", Colbert said.

"This is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico", the email continued, "however, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations".

Some of the largest celebrations in the USA are held in Los Angeles and in towns throughout the west where there are large Mexican-American populations.
