For UPSC, over 456,625 candidates took the exam for the preliminary examination.

Durishetty, who has served as an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer for two years, achieved the first rank in the civil services examination. Meanwhile, fifteen men and eight women have made it to the top 25 list. A total of 165 candidates from Scheduled Caste and 74 from Scheduled Tribes have been recommended. The recommended candidates also include 29 physically disabled persons. The examination was conducted from October 28 to November 3 in 2017 for selection of the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and other Central Services (Group "A" and Group "B"). While 13,366 candidates qualified for the Written (Main) Examination which was held in October-November a year ago, only 2,568 candidates made it for the Personality Test conducted in February-April 2018. Just 2,568 candidates qualified the main and appeared for the Personality Test conducted in February-April 2018.
