Iowa unemployment drops to 2.8 percent, 5th lowest in US

New Mexico's unemployment rate is down as state officials report an increase in private sector jobs.

Tennessee's 3.4 percent seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate last month was the lowest of any March in modern times, according to BLS figures.

"Manufacturing has been one of the state's key economic drivers so far this year, gaining 3,100 jobs in the last two months", DEED Commissioner Shawntera Hardy said in a statement Thursday, April 19.

Since March 2017, total non farm jobs in Pennsylvania were up 1.4 percent. Health care/social assistance employers added 3,300 payroll jobs, followed by employers in the arts/entertainment/recreation sector with a net 3,000 jobs.

Illinois' unemployment rate continued to drop in March, and the number of unemployed individuals was at its lowest point in over a decade.

The leisure and hospitality industry contracted 0.7 percent compared to this time previous year while retail employment is down 0.1 percent. The data show that 2,800 fewer jobs than initially thought were added from January to February.

When people stop looking for work, they are no longer considered unemployed for the objective of calculating the jobless rate, thus lowering the rate. Over the year, Manufacturing gained 2,500 (+1.0%) jobs. The sector, which includes other service jobs, was the other category losing jobs.

The estimated number of jobs in Pennsylvania, referred to as total nonfarm jobs, was up 2,700 from February to a record high of 6,004,600. Leisure and hospitality added another 2,200 jobs.
