That pressure grew more intense on Tuesday after Missouri's attorney general said his office uncovered evidence of electronic theft by Greitens in an unrelated investigation - an allegation the governor dismissed as "ridiculous".
"By his own published standards, AG Hawley's official public call for Gov. Greitens to resign compromises the AGO's own ongoing investigation of Gov. Greitens". Questions have been raised about his ties to the charity since at least October 2016, when The Associated Press reported that he had raised almost $2 million for his campaign from donors who also gave significant amounts to The Mission Continues.
Defense lawyers say that William Don Tisaby, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent working for St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, lied under oath, and Gardner had to have been aware of his lies.
McCaskill campaign spokeswoman Meira Bernstein in a statement criticized Hawley for not acting sooner against Greitens and said the timing shows "gross incompetence on the part of the attorney general". That case also has been referred to the St. Louis prosecutor. Shamed Dogan, R-Ballwin. Dogan said he's especially alarmed now about the findings in Hawley's investigation that allege Greitens used a donor list from The Mission Continues to raise money for his gubernatorial campaign.
I will not be resigning the Governor's office.

Hawley has panned that argument, saying that his comments were about a separate matter - the House report - and had nothing to do with his investigation of the charity. "Under Missouri law, this is known as computer tampering and given the value of the list in question, it is a felony", Hawley said. "It's an issue that's easy for me to understand - you do not commingle non-profit lists with political activity".
The special investigative committee will meet Wednesday at noon to talk about the accusations against Gov. Eric Greitens.
Hawley denied that his Senate candidacy influenced his handling of the case.
The attorney general's office has turned over all the evidence to Gardner's office, Hawley added. His spokeswoman Mary Compton said in a statement that Hawley became involved after the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported in February 2018 that it had obtained a copy of an email indicating that a Greitens employee who previously worked at The Mission Continues had shared the donor list with Laub and Michael Hafner, who had been working for Greitens' gubernatorial exploratory committee, in January 2015.
