And, on Wednesday, Crown attorney Michael Cantlon confirmed the accused serial killer now faces yet another first-degree murder charge for the death of Abdulbasir Faizi.

McArthur was arrested on January 18, one day after police uncover evidence that "pushed the case over the edge", allowing them to charge McArthur in the deaths of Kinsman and Esen while initiating a massive search of properties connected to McArthur.

Toronto police are expected to reveal "substantial" developments in their investigation on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers recovered the remains of seven people from planters around a midtown Toronto home where McArthur worked.

McArthur was arrested in January and charged with the murders of Andrew Kinsman and Selim Esen, who both disappeared a year ago.

Toronto police said last week that they are looking for any links between McArthur and a series of grisly, unsolved murders from the 1970s.

While McArthur is believed to have met his victims on dating apps or Toronto's Gay Village, Judi Riley told CBC News that her brother, Jon, wasn't gay.

McArthur was arrested in January in what police have described as an investigation that is unprecedented in scale.

Thanks to the evidence they've uncovered, police said they have also been able to determine that Lisowick was killed in April 2016. Faizi, the latest victim, was reported missing on December 29, 2010, to the Peel Regional Police Service, police said.

Kayhan's remains have not been identified thus far, Idsinga said.

Some of the men McArthur is accused of killing kept their sexuality hidden from their families, were new to Toronto or had few ties to the community. In addition to the cold cases, police have also increased the number of properties on their list to search from 30 to 75.

Forensic teams are still collecting evidence from McArthur's apartment in the city's Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood.

Idsinga said it's quite possible that the victim was not a resident of Toronto and that police were hoping to get tips to the man's identity from other countries as well. Police said at the time that they believe the man was already dead when the photo was taken.

Mr. Faizi was the second of three men to missing between 2010 and 2012 who were investigated under Project Houston.

McArthur's next court date is April 25.

McCarthur was charged with a sixth count of first-degree murder on February 23 for the death of Skandaraj Navaratnam, 40, who hadn't been seen since September 2010.
