Cricket Australia has announced it will launch a wide-reaching review into "cultural, organisational and governance issues" following last month's ball-tampering scandal.

His decision, just hours before a deadline, followed a contrite Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft also accepting their sanctions on Wednesday.Warner and Smith were last week suspended from global and domestic cricket for a year, while opening batsman Bancroft was exiled for nine months over the incident during the third Test in South Africa that shocked the sport.

Critics have questioned whether CA's role in the affair should come under scrutiny, but chairman David Peever said he does not intend to step down and that chief executive James Sutherland's job is not in jeopardy.

Leading that player-driven process will be former Test opener Rick McCosker, who will help to assess whether any "changes to codes and standards governing player conduct are required".

"The outcomes from this process will form reference points for the independent review".

Mr Peever said further details of the review would be announced in due course. "But this is not the time for a witch-hunt".
