Amazon hasn't made its launch public, but as of now it is only available to users in India for the time being and runs on devices with Android 5.0 or higher, reports TechCrunch.

Amazon did not respond to queries regarding the Internet browser until the time of writing this story.

Like most "lite" apps and unlike any web-browsers, the Amazon's web browser is an abysmally small download - weighing in under 2 MB. Amazon even promises to offer new features via regular updates.

Considering the element of appeal, the web browser isn't just to pull users for its "lite" factor. It now has only a few 100 something downloads not even reaching the 1000 mark. In the past, Facebook and LinkedIn has also rolled out the Lite version of their apps. Smartphones like Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Oppo A83, Honor 9 Lite are not compatible with this web browser.

It's evident that Amazon is following the strategy adopted by companies like Google and Facebook that have developed their lite apps for emerging markets.

Other options available in the settings menu include the "Save form inputs", "Clear browsing data", "Send feedback", and "Check for update" in addition to the version of the app, operating system and the button to check the legal information about the browser. As its name suggests, Amazon's web browser is lighter in size (under 2MB) when compared to other options like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, etc. "The Amazon.in mobile shopping app was also the most downloaded shopping app in India in 2017, according to App Annie", read the letter.

In Google Playstore, the description of the new "Internet" app already shows that it contains ads.

Selective compatibility and discreet launching have kept the current download rate of the app at about a few hundreds only, let alone reach a thousand-mark. Earlier, Amazon introduced Kindle Lite, which it claimed "is less than 2MB and provides Kindle features that customers love, including personalised recommendations, Whispersync (synching your eBooks across devices) as well as free eBook samples and titles across English, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati and Malayalam".
