Amazon Has Started Working On Its Home Robot For The First Time

That's because Amazon has set in motion a "top-secret" plan to build a robot for the home, according to a stunning new report from Bloomberg.

Insider sources say Amazon is still sorting out exactly what features its home-based robot will have.

Amazon has made great strides in artificial intelligence and computer vision technology over the last couple of years since the launch of the first Alexa-powered Echo smart speaker and Amazon Go cashier-less stores.

Apple has said in the past it wants to be everywhere we are, and robots could be a part of that.

Still, Research and Markets believes the consumer robot market will be worth roughly $15 billion United States dollars by the year 2023, so it's no wonder Amazon is aiming to get in on the ground floor. Vesta's current prototypes include robots with advanced cameras and computer-vision software that help it navigate through homes. The device would likely take advantage in advances in autonomous movement that have helped push self-driving auto tests.

This new report comes from Bloomberg, which spoke to unnamed sources that are familiar with Amazon's plans. LG is even getting in on the action, having demonstrated its own CLOi bot, which unfortunately failed several times to respond to its human counterpart. Nobody else seems to have anything on this rumour, although ZDNet notes that Amazon already has much of the infrastructure in place to make this happen.

The consumer robot market will be worth about $15 billion a year by 2023, according to an estimate from Research and Markets, which would be up from about $5.4 billion this year.
